EOL Helps Students (And Their Teachers) Connect and Communicate in New and Positive Ways.

Edge of Leadership (EOL) is High 5’s experiential framework for developing leadership through real-world practice, reflection, and application, used with students, educators, and organizations.

At Its Core, EOL is Built on a Simple Belief

  • Students are not future leaders.
  • They are leaders right now, if we give them the conditions to act like it.

Through classroom experiences, challenge-based learning, and guided reflection, EOL helps school communities build a shared language around how people connect, grow, and take responsibility for themselves and others.

The Three Foundations of EOL

Connect

Leadership begins with relationships.
Students learn how to:

  • Build trust and belonging
  • Understand and express emotions
  • Listen, communicate, and navigate conflict
  • Recognize the needs of others

This is where culture starts.

Empower

Leadership grows through capability.
Students develop:

  • Critical thinking and decision-making
  • Problem-solving in dynamic situations
  • Confidence through action and reflection
  • The ability to work with and rely on others

This is where students begin to see themselves as capable.

Lead... Be the Example

Leadership becomes visible through action.
Students practice:

  • Taking responsibility for their impact
  • Managing goals, time, and follow-through
  • Supporting others in their growth
  • Contributing to something bigger than themselves

This is where leadership moves from internal to external.

EOL Isn’t a Program. It’s a System.

  • Built from real student and educator experiences
  • Designed to transfer into everyday behavior
  • Focused on contribution, not compliance
  • Scales from classroom moments to school-wide culture

Most programs end when the session ends.

EOL continues in how people show up every day.

How EOL Comes to Life

With Our Book, the EOL Framework is in Your Hands

The Edge of Leadership book is more than a description of this work, it’s a practical guide to the models, language, and experiences that shape EOL in classrooms and programs.

It gives educators a clear starting point:

  • Understanding the core framework
  • Exploring tools like Needs–Values–Expectations and the Language of Emotions
  • Seeing how leadership develops through real experiences

But reading alone isn’t enough.

EOL is Designed to be Practiced

That’s where our Professional Learning experiences come in.

Through workshops, cohorts, and trainings, educators move beyond understanding the framework to:

  • Practicing facilitation strategies
  • Applying tools in real classroom scenarios
  • Building a shared language and culture with their teams

The book introduces the work. Professional Learning brings it to life.
